Chapter 3
By: 'Diana Barry'

Anne and Diana sat in the rustic bench down in the little valley where the echos of childrens voices were not yet playing. Diana was still the sweet, dear girl she was back in old Avonlea. Though a little heavier then when we saw her last, she still had her rosy complection, dimples and black curls.
Just now her eyes were sparkling with excitement as she listened to Anne's plan of matchmaking.
"Oh, Anne," she exclaimed. It would seem like old times again. But, Anne," She added anxiously, "in your condition.........."
"Diana, don't give out on me now," pleaded Anne. "Cilla and Ed were meant for each other. I just know if we pushed them in the right direction they would make a perfect match."
The next day, Gilbert and Fred set out for a day of fishing, taking Fred Jr.along.
"Susan," Anne said walking into the kitchen where Susan sat peeling potatoes. "Mrs. Wright and I are going out for a while, do you think you could mind small Anne Cordelia and Jam?"
"Of course, Mrs. Doctor Dear," Susan answered cheerily, "Anne Cordelia is not any trouble at all and Jem is always a dear."
Anne and Diana walked along into Glen St. Mary, chatting and liberally sprinkling 'do you remembers' in the conversation.
When they reached the drugstore where Ed worked, Diana began to look anxious. Ed was stocking boxes when they walked in.
"Good morning," Anne said, discreetly pulling reluctant Diana with her. "This is sure a fine day."
Ed looked out the window, "a bit warm," was his comment. "Can I help you with anything?"

Diana spoke up, "Yes, I'd like an ice cre---"
" No, thank you," Anne replied quickly, "we just dropped in to say hello." Aside to Diana in a whisper, "are you fading out on me? Remember our business."
"What a beautiful store!" exclaimed Diana, trying to make Anne forget the whole deal.
"A bit small," was the answer.
"Speaking of saying hello," Anne hurried on, "I think we should stop by Cila Drew's, Diana, I'm sure she'd love to meet you."
Ed blushed at Cilla's name.
"And what lovely merchandise!" Diana interceded.
"By the way," continued Anne, "I heard some report that you are courting her."
"It must be so enjoyable to work here," Diana said desperately.

Ed paid no attention to Diana, "tha-that report isn't true," he said.
Anne looked at him, "Do you wish it was?" she asked candidly.
"Yes," said Ed. "I wish it was true."
"I'm sure you must get alot of business here." Remarked Diana.
"Why don't you ask Cilla?" Anne asked.
"The windows are so big." Was Diana's next brilliant remark.
"I-I'm afraid to."
"If we could get Cilla here, would you ask her?"
"And that stool over there is just wonderful."
"Yes," said Ed simply, "if you explain everything to her and get her to come, I will ask her. "
"Good for you!" Anne exclaimed. Turning to Diana, she said, "come on Diana, lets go."
"It IS a lovely store," said Diana as they walked to the door.
Outside, Anne laughed so hard she almost cried. "Oh, Diana!" she exclaimed, "you were sooo comical!"
